CANCELED: Car Talk: Communicating with Teens About Gender

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Gender dysphoria, broadly described as the distress that arises from an
incongruence between assigned sex and gender identity, is not always
experienced in relationship to secondary sex characteristics. In order to
facilitate effective conversations with youth, parents/caretakers would
benefit from increased understanding of the many ways that gender
dysphoria might present. However, parents may feel uncomfortable or
uncertain having these important conversations. This session’s title
references just one of the ways to engage a youth in meaningful dialogue.
After all, escape is difficult when the vehicle is moving!

In this workshop expert mental health professionals Susan Landon and Aydin
Olson-Kennedy of the Los Angeles Gender Center will facilitate a lively
and interactive discussion about gender dysphoria, practice techniques for
communicating with a child and become more familiar with the possibilities
of “car talk.”
